Guiding (showing) the dog what you want him/her to do.  Praise (verbal, physical) to reaffirm the proper behavior. This concept, with repetition, will teach the dog the proper behavior you are looking for. 

 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: K9 Academy is unique in its approach to dog obedience. Our training is designed to give you solid scientific and proven way to raise (manage) and train your dog.  We believe in training the owners on how to train their dogs, as well as help to establish clear lines of communication.   Understanding the dog’s physical and social behavior is the most fundamental lesson to learn.  To educate the Handler that consistency is the key to a well behaved and socialized dog.  As soon as you acquire your new dog, whether it is a puppy or an adopted older dog, DO NOT wait to begin introducing the following household manners.  Housebreak and socialize the dog. Stop the dog from chewing and biting hands. Stop the dog from jumping up on people.  Teach the dog to come when called. Teach the dog to “stay” before going out any door including car doors. Get the dog used to being examined and touched particularly the ears and feet. You MUST stop any barking, whining, aggression or undo interest toward any and all other animals or people. You can teach your dog to “heel” (walk on your left side).  We offer 3 levels of Obedience Training:   

PUPPY CLASS:  A 4 week class which consists of socialization, bite inhibition, soft mouth behavior, household manners and the proper use of kennels. 

 BASIC CLASS:  A 4 week class which consists of using correction, guidance and praise to introduce the 5 basic commands of “heal”, “sit”, “down”, “come” and “stay.”  We also introduce the “leave it”, “off” and the “wait” command.  Additional topics covered are canine characteristics, proper use of equipment, common training mistakes, source of behavioral problems, avoiding behavioral problems, house breaking, destruction of property and importance of kennel usage.  

 INTERMEDIATE CLASS: A 4 week class that introduces off leash work and commands with enhancing the basic commands learned in the prior class.  You must have passed the Basic class in order to attend this class.

 Certification Training:   Canine Good Citizen testing, (CGC), with AKC guidelines.     

We will assist you with any aggression issues if you call to schedule an evaluation.
